I will liken building a good marriage to two people growing a healthy garden. If you make other things a priority without watering your garden, then weeds will choke it. But if you water your garden, it will grow because it is being nourished. Do not expect love to look after itself, rather water it as you would a real garden.

On a continuous basis, these are a few of the ways you can water your marriage:

Meaningful, intimate conversationBe quick to listen and do not engage in mind-reading. Give each other the freedom of expression. Discover what best meets your needs, i.e. explore how much time you need to spend communicating daily for your marriage to continue growing.

Rekindle Romance Go out of your way to bring romance back into your marriage. Be creative and put your spouse’s needs above yours. Set aside a date in your calendar when you can go out and spend quality time together. .

‘Most sweet are his kisses, even his whispers of love. He is delightful in every way and perfect from every viewpoint. If you ask me why I love him so, O brides-to-be, it’s because there is none like him to me. Everything about him fills me with holy desire! And now he is my beloved—my friend forever.’ (Song of Songs 5:16 TPT)

Remember: Love flourishes when you look after it!
