When Jesus arrived at the Pharisee’s house for dinner, the news of His visit spread quickly throughout the neighbourhood. The woman with the Alabaster Jar heard about it and decided to go and meet with Jesus there, uninvited.  She wasn’t proud of herself because of her past sins, but she made up her mind to go and nothing can stop her.

She was determined to do what she had purposed in her mind, which is to get her most treasured possession to Jesus. She had preserved the content for a very long time and the jar was tightly sealed so that the content could not escape until she decides to break the jar.

Jesus was already seated at the dinner table by the time she came in, clutching her Alabaster Jar tightly. She took the bold step and stood behind Jesus and kissed His feet with adoration and affection.  She felt deep humiliation for her sins. She could not hold on to the Alabaster Jar any longer. The time has come for her to let go of her past. She’s held on to it for too long. She broke the Jar and emptied the contents on Jesus.

“And stood behind Him at His feet, weeping, and began to wash His feet with her tears. She wiped His feet with the hair of her head, kissing them and anointing them with the fragrant oil.” (Luke 7:38 NLT)

Jesus’s host was annoyed at the woman because he thought that she is not qualified to come near Jesus because she had a past.  But Jesus was touched by her actions.  He assured her that her sins has been forgiven.

“Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven””. (Luke 7: 48 HCSB)

The woman was able to access the love of Christ by letting go of the contents of her Alabaster Jar.  What she has kept hidden away for a long time has now become an instrument of worship for her maker.  Her past has been forgiven and she is free to enjoy a new life in Christ.

What have you kept in your Alabaster Jar for so long? I assure you, Jesus can see right through that jar you are carrying.  I know you have let out a few drops of the contents here and there, but the time has come for you to break the Jar at Jesus’s feet.  Go ahead, break your Alabaster Jar and let your past that has been locked up become a sweet smelling fragrance to be used in worship and adoration of the lover of your soul. He is waiting for you to fall into His loving arms.

Jesus loves you despite yourself. It doesn’t matter what you have done in the past. He will not cast you away. Forget the past and move on like the woman with the Alabaster Jar. Let go and let God.
